The Foggy Rock Eatery and Pub of Blowing Rock, NC hosted a festive book signing event last night for Author S. David Acuff’s latest novel, “Slay Bells Ring”.

“The location is perfect,” Acuff explained, “since the story of this particular Christmas horror comedy takes place in the neighboring town of Banner Elk, NC. And it features local restaurants, the haunted hospital across from Lees-McRae College and even familiar felines that these Boone natives will all appreciate.”

This event all began as a “what-if” phone call from Acuff (who lives in Burbank, California) to his sister, Nikki, who has lived in Boone for over ten years and is always up for masterminding a “fun shindig.”

From L to R: Acuff’s Brother-in-Law John, his sister Nikki, and the David Acuff make “scary vampire faces”… sorta.

The enterprising bartenders of Foggy Rock went the extra mile and whipped up fun new cocktails in honor of the vampire-themed event. One was a cinnamon flavored hot toddy aptly named after the book’s Ryan Reynolds-esque main character, “Dan Helsing”. The other was a berry margarita-style beverage called the “Slay You Berry Much.”

Bartender Mel is not just a customer, she invented the “Dan Helsing” hot toddy!

The signing was held from 4p until 7pm in order to beat the ice storm that was forecast to hit later that evening. A personalized, signed book + cocktail combo was offered to anyone who was interested. And people were interested. In fact, Acuff sold out his stash of 25 books with orders for more on top of that.

Foggy Rock Owners Burt and Yvonne enjoy hosting events at their popular restaurant throughout the year.

Acuff had a blast hanging out with friends and family and meeting new and enthusiastic readers who were all looking forward to diving into the local indie title.

And of course he heard that question that all authors simultaneously love and fear:

“Hey, when is the sequel gonna be available?”

Patrons were happy to hear that the follow-up story is already in the works.
