“Rey” 10-minute Short Film Premiere

“Rey: My So-Called Tatooine Life” Premieres This Saturday—Built at Lightspeed with AI

This Saturday, August 2nd at 10am PDT, a new kind of Star Wars story hits the holo-net. “Rey: My So-Called Tatooine Life” is a bold, cinematic short film reimagining Rey Skywalker’s life after the events of Episode IX—trading Jedi robes for desert goggles, lightsabers for scrap tools, and destiny for dusty day jobs. Also she’s got a long-eared desert-cat named Dummy.

But this isn’t just a fan film. It’s a glimpse into the future of filmmaking.

Written, directed, and edited by S. David Acuff, this ten-minute short was created in less than a month—powered by a full arsenal of AI tools. From music (Suno), visuals (Midjourney, KLING, Runway), and voice work (ElevenLabs) to cinematic rendering with Google Veo 3, the project evolved in real-time with the bleeding edge of technology.

“When I was a kid playing with my Star Wars action figures, it was immersive and fun—to pretend and create inside the Star Wars playground,” says Acuff. “This is the first time I’ve felt that same way. To be completely immersed in my own imagination and world-building without limits. This was too much fun!”

The most astonishing part? Google Veo 3, one of the film’s most striking tools for high-end cinematic shots, didn’t even enter the mix until two weeks ago. That’s how fast the landscape is changing. New features. New capabilities. Every week.

It’s no exaggeration to say that “Rey: My So-Called Tatooine Life” was built at lightspeed.

Mark your calendar. Set your R2 unit. And get ready to see Rey like you’ve never seen her before—scrappy, sarcastic, and living her very best life under two suns.

???? Premieres Saturday, August 2, 2025 @ 10AM PDT on YouTube.
